Geboren in New York, absolvierte Judith Trepp ihr Studium am Bard College. Sie lebt und arbeitet heute in Provincetown/USA und in der Schweiz.
Judith Trepp bedient sich einer radikal einfachen Ausdrucksweise. Sie entwickelte eine auffallend reduzierte Formensprache deren Inhalte sie im Laufe ihrer künstlerischen Entwicklung immer stärker reduziert hat. Das Zusammenwirken von Linie und Leere prägen ihr Werk. Ausgangspunkt und gleichzeitig integraler Bestandteil ihrer Gemälde und Zeichnungen ist die Suche nach dem, „elementarsten Weg, einen emotionalen Gedanken auszudrücken“. Judith Trepp interessiert der Ausdruck des Existenziellen und Absoluten. Damit wurzelt ihr Werk im Expressionismus der New Yorker Schule der späten 40er Jahre und in der Minimal Art der 60er Jahre.
Das Oeuvre von Judith Trepp umfasst Gemälde in Öl und Eitempera auf Leinwand, sowie Tuschearbeiten auf handgeschöpftem Papier sowie Grafiken. Seit einigen Jahren widmet sie sich ausserdem der Plastik aus gebürstetem und lackiertem Edelstahl, die sowohl für den Innen- als auch den Aussenraum geeignet ist.

Biography
Judith Trepp was born in New York and graduated from Bard College. Since 1970 she lives and works now in Switzerland and Provincetown, Ma., USA
Her paintings are expressive and minimal. She could be considered as a linear artist, but only upon first impression. Her paintings quietly traverse that fine line where expected definitions turn around each other to emerge renewed. Although she employs only a single line, or at most several in juxtaposition to one another, the images made in oil or charcoal move with an intensely focused energy and concentrated stillness on delicately worked linen and paper surfaces.
Trepp’s oeuvre is composed of painting: egg tempera and oil on linen, drawing: ink on handmade Indian paper, and sculptures made of brushed stainless steel with car paint suitable for both indoor and outdoor space
